This activity is intended for beginning listeners who have made some solid connections between sounds and objects. (If your child is not quite at this stage and you need some games that develop understanding of sound-object association, check out our “Knock, Knock!” resource). Developed by Teacher of the Deaf, Christina Berghoff, this activity is based around characters and objects from the popular “Ling Ling Bird Hears with his Magic Ears” book, with colourful print-ready materials and top tips for supporting listening while you play and ideas for creating variations of the games to extend learning and fun even further. Additional materials include printable classroom banners, “It’s time to play…” screen/smartboard displays, printable player certificates and bonus train-themed colouring pages for relaxing afterwards.

Printable Materials: Character cut-out sheets - 19 different characters in total. (Cut along dotted lines and select which individual characters you want to use.)
Printable Materials: Train with carriages (Cut out and connect sections to make a long train. If you need more carriages, simply re-print this page.)
Classroom Display Banner: Get on the Train with Ling Ling Bird (33”/84cm - divided into 3 sections for printing. Print on 3 regular sheets of paper, then connect with tape/staples/glue.)
Screen/Smartboard Display: It’s time to play “Get on the Train!” with Ling Ling Bird
